Bio//
I am classically trained and perform live concerts in piano and violin. I have used synths with acoustic instruments, blending East-West. I follow my heart and ear for melodies. I am American-born, second generation Taiwanese. I consider myself more of a musician than a pianist having spent more time playing violin growing up. My 7/8 18th century Italian violin has passed through generations of musicians. Scholarship at Eastman School of Music pre-college in Violin.
A Harvard College graduate in both Music and East Asian Languages and Civilizations, I was a violinist but switched to composing, piano, producing recently because of ongoing health problems and injuries. After many years of misdiagnoses, I was finally diagnosed with two brain tumors in 2019, the larger an acoustic neuroma-type, growing on my balance/hearing nerve. With surgery I was told by my first surgeon that I had a 50% chance to lose hearing in my left ear and that my balance would likely never be normal again. I went to a second surgeon who had training in more minimally-invasive techniques for challenging skull-base cases. Luckily my hearing remained after the November '19 surgery. It is a miracle that I can still share my music. I have returned to playing my violin now, although I spend more time at the piano now. My songs depict nostalgia and themes of darkness evolving into light. I bring to my classical background different genres including electronic and jazz. Find different works on my Bandcamp, One World Music Radio, Soundcloud too. Thanks for following me on Spotify and YouTube! I have jaw problems, TMJ which affects my violin playing.. In between surgery and treatment for Ehlers-Danlos, a rare neuorological disease that adversely affects my joints including the jaw and fingers.. In Your Heart I Stay
'Lettre Pour Toi is our concluding offering, with Chen’s performance on felt piano seemingly utterly timeless, like a panting by Monet, full of colour, a pronounced and elevated tonal mastery can be found here. This is one of the most ambient offerings from the artist ever, and quite frankly a piece that I will delight in playing throughout the decades ahead.
Lettre Pour Toi by Sharon Chen is with ease her best work to date, her presentations and performance is one of the best, if not the best I have heard from her, in French I would doubtlessly say, felicitations Sharon, vous avez excellé dans cette belle nouvelle sortie. In English I salute one of the most creative EP’s I have heard this year on, Lettre Pour Toi by Sharon Chen.'
